Contents
Per 100 IU/mL Human insulin (recombinant DNA origin) consists of dissolved insulin 30%, isophane insulin 70%
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC Individualized dosing. Usual insulin requirement: 0.3-1 IU/kg daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Administer 30 min before meals.
Special Precautions
Do not administer IV. Risk of hyperglycaemia w/ inadequate dosage or discontinuation of treatment, especially in type 1 DM. Risk of hypoglycaemia w/ excessive insulin dose, omitted meal or unplanned, strenuous physical exercise. Change in usual warning symptoms of hypoglycaemia in patients w/ greatly improved blood glucose control eg, by intensified therapy, & w/ longstanding diabetes. Change in strength, brand (manufacturer), type, origin (human insulin, insulin analogue) &/or method of manufacture of insulin. Patients w/ concomitant illness, especially infections & feverish conditions; concomitant diseases in the kidney, liver or affecting the adrenal, pituitary, or thyroid gland; patients travelling between different time zones. Rotate inj site continuously to reduce or prevent inj site reactions. Do not use in insulin infusion pumps. Cases of CHF in combination w/ thiazolidinediones. May impair ability to drive & use machines. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycaemia. Refraction anomalies, oedema, inj site reactions (pain, redness, hives, inflammation, bruising, swelling & itching at the inj site).
Drug Interactions
Reduced patient's insulin requirement w/ oral antidiabetics, MAOIs, non-selective β-blockers, ACE inhibitors, salicylates, anabolic steroids & sulphonamides. Increased patient's insulin requirement w/ OCs, thiazides, glucocorticoids, thyroid hormones, sympathomimetics, growth hormone & danazol. Masked symptoms of hypoglycaemia & delayed recovery from hypoglycaemia w/ β-blockers. Either increased or decreased insulin requirements w/ octreotide/lanreotide. Intensified or reduced hypoglycemic effects w/ alcohol.
